Position Summary
The Irrigation Service Technician performs seasonal services, system inspections, and repairs while following company standards for quality, safety, and customer service.
- Turn irrigation systems on and off and perform thorough system inspections
- Diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation issues including leaks, low pressure, coverage problems, electrical faults, and controller malfunctions
- Make repairs and provide recommendations for improvements to existing irrigation systems
- Install, maintain, and repair irrigation components including:
- Sprinkler heads, rotors, and drip systems
- Valves, piping, wiring, controllers, and backflow components
- Ensure systems operate efficiently and comply with local water regulations
Key Responsibilities
- The Irrigation Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing residential and/or commercial irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution and healthy landscapes. This role requires strong attention to detail, a troubleshooting mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Seasonal & Preventative Services
- Perform spring startups, mid-season inspections, and winterizations
- Adjust and program standard and smart irrigation controllers
- Identify potential system issues and address them proactively
Communication & Documentation
- Follow directions from the Team Leader and communicate clearly with the team
- Communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations to supervisors and/or customers in a professional manner
- Maintain accurate service records, material usage, and job documentation
Safety & Team Support
- Follow all safety procedures and company standards on job sites
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and service vehicles
- Assist with other landscape maintenance or irrigation tasks as needed
Required Qualifications
- Previous irrigation experience preferred but not required; willing to train the right individual
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and components (pipes, valves, sprinklers) or willingness to learn
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to follow directions and pay attention to detail
- Effective communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (chauffeur’s license preferred)
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of irrigation installation, maintenance, or repair experience
- Experience with smart irrigation controllers and water management technology
- Commercial irrigation experience
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Physical labor including digging, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working in trenches
- Occasional early mornings or extended hours during peak irrigation season
