Job summary

City of Santee is seeking a maintenance worker to perform a range of grounds and irrigation tasks across parks, playgrounds, and public facilities. You will operate landscaping equipment and assist in building repairs as needed, supporting ongoing beautification efforts in the City’s parks.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of entry-level irrigation/landscape experience, with desirable training in irrigation systems and horticulture.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One year of recent, entry-level irrigation/landscape experience.
• Completion of specialized training in the maintenance, repair, and installation of irrigation systems is highly desirable.
• Supplemental coursework in Ornamental Horticulture or related field is highly desirable.
• Experience with Calsense Irrigation systems is highly desirable.
• Recent experience is defined as relevant experience in the last five years.

Responsibilities

• Perform grounds, gardening and turf maintenance for parks, playgrounds, and public facilities.
• Mow, edge, weed, trim, and clean outdoor spaces; remove graffiti and debris.
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems; adjust timers and controllers; repair heads and lines; locate water breaks.
• Plant, water, prune, fertilize, and maintain landscaped areas including trees and shrubs.
• Identify turf, shrub, and tree diseases and related problems.
• Maintain park facilities and equipment; assist in building repairs as needed.
• Respond to public inquiries and provide information; handle complaints efficiently.
• Operate a variety of landscaping equipment and tools; perform other related duties as required.
