Job summary

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is seeking a Grounds Services irrigations lead at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City. You will oversee and train staff, manage irrigation systems, and ensure water efficiency while coordinating with building managers and contractors.

This is a full-time benefitted position with day shifts. Responsibilities include system maintenance, equipment operation, and data collection to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, landscape architecture, landscape horticulture or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in irrigation.
• Training as an Irrigation Technician or Water Auditor; centralized irrigation controller experience preferred.
• Understanding of routine care and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Ability to operate equipment and handle 110 volt electrical work.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, train and lead volunteers, temporary employees, and regular team members.
• Translate team-wide assignments into individual goals and tasks, staying within the scope of the assignment.
• Review team and individual performance and counsel on directional changes to achieve goals.
• Develop employees' talents through training and performance management.
• Perform regular system maintenance: inspect/repair sprinkler heads, pipes, valves, and other components.
• Program watering schedules utilizing central control systems and winterize systems.
• Troubleshoot irrigation components and retrofit older systems to improve water efficiency.
• Implement the design of new irrigation systems, prepare job sites and manage quality control.
• Operate and maintain air compressors, mini excavators, trenchers, skid steers and other equipment.
• Train grounds staff in maintenance practices and water conservation principles.
• Collect data to assess irrigation efficiency and distribution uniformity.
• Work with supervisor/manager and building managers to implement repair solutions.
• Perform snow removal duties and other grounds responsibilities; stay current with new products and best practices.
