Job description

Ironworker

Performs duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or frameworks. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Reads blueprints and selects required materials for construction.
2. Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
3. Fastens steel members to the cable of hoist, using chain, cable, or rope.
4. Guides the structure being lifted into the proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes.
5. Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
6. May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials and workpieces during installation.
7. Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using a plumb bob and level. Bolts align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
8. Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted, or welded into place.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
