Job summary

The Middlesex Corporation in Norwalk, CT is hiring an Iron Worker / Rigger to safely position and unite steel girders and structural members for large-scale projects. You will read blueprints, set up hoisting equipment, and coordinate with crane operators to place components accurately.

This role emphasizes strict safety adherence, teamwork, and strong communication. A minimum of 3 years’ rigging/layout experience is required, with NCCER certification considered a plus.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with layout, connecting and rigging.
  • Ability to work at all heights is a must.
  • Ability to read blueprints, interpret symbols and abbreviations on plans and drawings.
  • Prior rigging experience including knowledge of hand signals, rigging gear, inspection and proper use.
  • NCCER certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all Safety policies and procedures and report accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Read specifications and blueprints to determine locations, quantities, and sizes of materials.
  • Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members. Hoist beams, girders, and columns into place using cranes with hand signals and tag lines.
  • Verify alignment and plumbing of steel structures and make corrections to erected structures as needed.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts following blueprints using bolts, nuts, washers and torqueing.

Position Summary

An ironworker is responsible for safely positioning and uniting steel girders, columns, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do.
  • Read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
