Job summary

Teachers College, Columbia University seeks a full-time Research Compliance & Education Specialist to join the Human Research Protection Office and support faculty and student researchers engaged in human subjects research.

The role emphasizes education, training, and quality assurance, coordinating with IRB leadership, external vendors, and auditors to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional rules. Hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, health, or psychology or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4 years direct experience in a Human Research Protection Program or IRB setting.
• Advanced understanding of DHHS 45 CFR 46 and Belmont principles guiding human subjects research.
• Familiarity with IRB submission systems such as Cayuse and OneAegis.
• Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develops and provides core and targeted IRB training for staff and researchers.
• Supports external audits and inspections by funders and regulators.
• Partners to develop and refine the human subject education plan.
• Monitors QA/QI activities to inform education needs.
• Produces reports to leadership with IRB performance metrics.
• Maintains SOPs for HRPP and coordinates with vendors like CITI/PRIM&R.
• Assists with CAPA planning and corrective actions as warranted.
• Maintains ongoing communication with TC research community.

Education

Bachelor's degree in education, health, or psychology

4 years of direct experience in HRPP/IRB or clinical research compliance

Strong understanding of DHHS 45 CFR 46 and Belmont principles

Proficiency with IRB submission systems (Cayuse/OneAegis)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

Master’s degree in education, health, or psychology (preferred)
