Job summary

Job description

Employment Status: Part time. Shift: Variable Hours. Location: 1906 Belleview Ave SE – Roanoke, VA. Facility: Carilion Clinic. Requisition Number: R123522. Duties: 3 ten‑hour shifts weekly, rotating schedule with weekends and on‑call availability.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and advanced care practitioners with direct patient care during interventional procedures in scrub and circulator positions.
  • Prepare patients for examination, explain procedures, and position the table or C‑arm.
  • Set up equipment for power injections and advanced imaging techniques (e.g., DYNA CT).
  • Use sterile technique, practice optimal radiation protection, and ensure patient, physician, and team needs are met during the procedure.
  • Serve as patient advocate, transport, sheath removal, closure site care, and dressing application.
  • Identify and deliver anatomic or foreign‑body specimens to the appropriate collection site.
  • Assist in providing and assuring informed consent and patient education.
  • Evaluate lab results, patient history, procedure contraindications, and prior diagnostic imaging; discuss with interdisciplinary team as needed.
  • Record and maintain all procedural data; document supplies used, driving patient charges and billing.
  • Maintain an orderly procedure area, stock supplies for daily use, and prepare for emergent cases.
  • Obtain and set up procedural supplies and equipment; operate and support single and bi‑plane digital imaging systems, ultrasound, C‑arms, iGuide technology and other hardware/software.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and collaborate with vendor support.
  • Administer contrast and procedural‑based medications under supervision of a licensed physician; film cone‑beam CTs and use IVUS and AccuNav guidance.
  • Operate, monitor, and process radiographic, fluoroscopic, and ultrasound imaging equipment for vascular and invasive procedures.
  • Act as first assist table‑side, managing equipment and supplies and back‑table management; assist in emergent conditions.
  • Use critical thinking to manage emergencies, observe patients for adverse reactions, and assist as needed.
  • Perform image post‑processing and quality‑assurance imaging.
  • Send and verify images to PACS; monitor and process imaging during procedures.
  • Enter patient history, labs, and case proceedings into databases.
  • Maintain patient, staff, and customer confidentiality; adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in training students and orienting new employees.
  • Escalate issues to the Interventional Radiology Technician – Advanced as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Current RT(R) status through ARRT and active ARRT registry status via required CEU’s.
  • No specific experience required; successful completion of orientation and competency validation necessary.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, team‑working, and technical skills.
  • Proficiency in operating or supporting ancillary equipment such as thermal ablation devices, angiojet, power injectors, EKOS, IVUS, penumbra, and lasers.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, cross‑sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, aseptic and sterile techniques, and radiation safety principles.
  • Flexibility in assignments and strong computer/data application skills.
  • Attention to detail and ongoing competence through self‑study and departmental in‑services.
