Job summary

DePuy Synthes seeks an IP Paralegal to support patent and trademark matters, including filings, clearance, and docketing. You will coordinate execution of documents, manage schedules, and assist with travel logistics for the IP legal team.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of paralegal experience in patent/trademark matters, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication. This role involves collaboration with attorneys and external counsel in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate or equivalent education + relevant experience.
  • 3–5 years paralegal/legal assistant experience supporting patent and/or trademark matters.
  • Experience with patent/trademark prosecution workflows and electronic filing of documents.
  • Experience coordinating administrative workflows (execution of documents, scheduling, travel).
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Effective written/verbal communication; collaborative with attorneys and external counsel.
  • English proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support management of the IP portfolio: preparation, review, and electronic filing of patent/trademark papers, responses, and prosecution documents.
  • Assist with trademark clearance, conflict, and transactional matters; coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
  • Use docket management and research tools to generate reports, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of required actions.
  • Coordinate execution of formal documents (signature routing, tracking, completion, distribution, retention of executed documents).
  • Communicate professionally with outside counsel, business partners, IP offices, and stakeholders with minimal attorney supervision.
  • Manage scheduling, including meeting coordination, agendas/materials, and follow-up.
  • Arrange and manage travel logistics for team members.
  • Manage competing priorities, produce high-quality work, and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives and process improvements.

Job description

We are searching for an IP Paralegal to support the DePuy Synthes IP Legal team across patent and trademark matters, including clearance, portfolio and docket management, and related portfolio activities. Provides administrative and operational support for the IP Legal team, including coordinating execution of formal documents, scheduling meetings and follow-up, and managing travel arrangements/logistics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support management of the IP portfolio: preparation, review, and electronic filing of patent/trademark application/registration papers, responses, and prosecution documents.
  • Assist with trademark clearance, conflict, and transactional matters; coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
  • Use docket management and research tools to generate reports, monitor deadlines, and ensure timely completion of required actions.
  • Coordinate execution of formal documents (signature routing, tracking, completion, distribution, retention of executed agreements/assignments/declarations/POAs and other documents).
  • Communicate professionally with outside counsel, business partners, IP offices, and stakeholders with minimal attorney supervision.
  • Manage scheduling, including meeting coordination, agendas/materials, and follow-up.
  • Arrange and manage travel logistics for team members.
  • Manage competing priorities, produce high-quality work, and maintain accurate records.
