Job summary

DePuy Synthes is seeking an IP Paralegal to support the management of the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including preparing, reviewing, and electronically filing patent and trademark documents.

You will collaborate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders, manage docketing and research tools, and generate reports to monitor upcoming deadlines. The role also involves coordinating document execution, travel, and maintaining meticulous records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate or equivalent combination.
  • 3–5 years of paralegal/IP experience supporting patent/trademark matters.
  • Experience with patent/trademark prosecution workflows and electronic filing.
  • Experience coordinating administrative workflows, scheduling, and travel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with IP docket management systems and research tools.
  • Understanding of domestic and international trademark/patent processes.
  • Ability to interact with attorneys, paralegals, partners, and outside counsel.
  • English proficiency; occasional domestic travel (<10%).

Job description

  • Support management of the DePuy Synthes IP portfolio, including preparation, review, and electronic filing of patent and trademark prosecution documents
  • Assist with trademark clearance, conflict, and transactional matters
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel
  • Use docket management and research tools to generate reports and monitor upcoming deadlines
  • Coordinate execution, tracking, distribution, and retention of formal legal and business documents
  • Communicate independently with outside counsel, business partners, intellectual property offices, and other stakeholders
  • Manage scheduling for IP Legal team activities and coordinate follow-up items
  • Arrange and manage team travel logistics, itineraries, expenses, and changes
  • Manage competing priorities, produce high-quality work, and maintain accurate records
  • Participate in departmental initiatives, committees, projects, process improvements, and other activities supporting the DePuy IP Legal team
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate, or equivalent combination of education and relevant legal or intellectual property experience
  • At least 3–5 years of paralegal, legal assistant, or comparable intellectual property experience supporting patent and/or trademark matters
  • Experience supporting patent and trademark prosecution workflows, including preparation, review, coordination, and electronic filing of application, registration, response, and maintenance documents
  • Experience coordinating administrative workflows in a legal, corporate, or professional services environment, including execution of formal documents, scheduling, and travel coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, prioritize workload, and complete assignments accurately with limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and commitment to producing excellent work product
  • Familiarity with intellectual property docket management systems, research platforms, electronic filing tools, and reporting functions
  • Strong administrative coordination skills, including document execution workflows, calendars, meeting logistics, travel arrangements, and competing operational priorities
  • Understanding of trademark and patent prosecution processes, including domestic and international requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, other paralegals, business partners, and external counsel
  • English proficiency required
  • Occasional domestic travel may be required (<10%)
