Job summary

DePuy Synthes Legal Organization is seeking an IP Paralegal to support the management of the DePuy IP portfolio, including patent and trademark filings and prosecution documentation. The role collaborates with attorneys, inventors, and outside counsel to ensure timely action.

You will handle docketing, reports, and calendar management, coordinate with internal teams and external partners, and assist with travel and meetings as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate, or equivalent education plus relevant experience.
  • 3–5 years of paralegal/legal assistant experience supporting patent/trademark matters.
  • Experience with patent/trademark prosecution workflows and e-filing of documents.
  • Experience coordinating administrative workflows (execution of formal documents, scheduling, travel coordination).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative working style with attorneys, paralegals, business partners, and external counsel.

  • Arrange travel logistics and coordinate itineraries and expenses.
  • Proactively manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.

IP Paralegal (DePuy Synthes Legal Organization)
Responsibilities:
  • Support management of the DePuy IP portfolio, including preparation, review, and electronic filing of patent and trademark application/registration papers, responses, and other prosecution documents.
  • Assist with trademark clearance, conflict, and transactional matters; coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Use docket management and research tools to generate reports, monitor upcoming deadlines, and help ensure timely completion of required actions.
  • Coordinate execution of formal documents (signature routing, tracking, completion, distribution, and retention) including agreements, assignments, declarations, powers of attorney, and other legal/business documents.
  • Communicate professionally and independently with outside counsel, business partners, IP offices, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage scheduling for IP Legal activities (meetings with attorneys, partners, inventors, outside counsel); prepare agendas/materials and coordinate follow‑up.
  • Arrange and manage travel logistics; coordinate itineraries, expense‑related items, and travel changes.
  • Proactively manage competing priorities; maintain accurate records.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate (or equivalent education + relevant experience).
  • 3–5 years of paralegal/legal assistant experience supporting patent and/or trademark matters.
  • Experience with patent/trademark prosecution workflows and electronic filing of documents (applications, registrations, responses, maintenance).
  • Experience coordinating administrative workflows (execution of formal documents, scheduling, travel coordination).
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication; collaborative working style with attorneys, paralegals, business partners, and external counsel.
