Job summary

Scale AI seeks an Associate General Counsel, Product & IP to provide strategic product counseling on IP at the intersection of AI. You will partner with cross-functional teams to embed IP protection into Scale’s products while advancing regulatory compliance and customer trust.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in-house and at a top law firm, ideally both managing at least a portion of an IP portfolio and product counseling.
• Ability to think strategically at a high level and from detail to drive complex problem solving and creative business-forward solutions.
• Ability to calibrate risk, distinguish business from legal risk, and communicate it clearly to executive, business, and technical audiences.
• Roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to tackle projects large and small with a low-ego approach to collaboration.
• Deep interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, and machine learning technology and applications.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• JD and California bar in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and strategically manage Scale’s worldwide intellectual property portfolio.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy aligned with Scale’s business objectives.
• Oversee invention sessions, invention disclosure selection, patent drafting and filing, and patent prosecution.
• Be a subject matter expert on US and global IP laws for business and Legal teams.
• Work with business and product teams to embed IP protection into Scale’s products and processes by design.
