Job summary

AbbVie is seeking an in-house Associate General Counsel for the IP Due Diligence group to support M&A, licensing, option, and venture transactions. Based in North Chicago, IL with other US offices, this role offers a hybrid work model and cross-functional collaboration with business development, R&D, and legal teams.

You will lead IP due diligence, assess patent coverage and freedom-to-operate, provide strategic counsel, and coordinate with external counsel to advance deal opportunities

Qualifications

JD required with USPTO registration and in-house eligibility.
Approximately 8 years of patent law experience.
Experience conducting IP due diligence in pharma/biotech.
Technical background in molecular biology/biochemistry or related field.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute IP due diligence for M&A, licensing, and venture deals.
Provide strategic IP counsel to business development and R&D teams.
Analyze third-party portfolios and freedom-to-operate considerations.
Coordinate with external counsel and internal teams on prosecution strategies.
