Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking a Practice Group Director to drive the success of its Patent, Trademark, Regulatory Affairs, Labor & Employment, and Construction Litigation Practice Groups. The role partners with Practice Group leadership and administrative functions to align priorities with firm initiatives and to champion people‑centered processes across groups.

The position is hybrid and can be based in any U.S.

Qualifications

• At least 10–15 years of supervisory/management experience.
• 7+ years of patent and trademark experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of U.S./foreign patent/trademark rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Act as strategic advisor to firm and Practice Group leadership on operational matters.
• Lead workflows, staffing, quality controls, and cross‑department coordination within IP practices.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IS, Knowledge Management, Marketing to implement firm initiatives.
• Lead people‑focused initiatives including onboarding, succession planning, training, and performance management.
• Coordinate budgets, reporting, profitability, and matter management; monitor trends.
