Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP seeks a Practice Group Director to drive success across Patent, Trademark, Regulatory Affairs, Labor & Employment, and Construction Litigation Practice Groups. The role partners with executives, HR, Finance, Marketing, KM, and more to align priorities, optimize operations, and foster people-centered processes across Practice Groups.

The position is hybrid and based in a U.S. office, requiring strong leadership, detailed workflow design, and the ability to manage multiple

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10–15 years of supervisory/management experience.
• 7+ years in patent and trademark context, US/foreign filing and docketing preferred.
• Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder management.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and reporting.
• Working knowledge of AI tools and willingness to explore applying tech to operations.

Responsibilities

• Act as strategic advisor to Practice Group leadership on operational and administrative matters.
• Lead workflow design, staffing, quality controls, and resource allocation for IP practices.
• Coordinate with HR, Finance, IT, KM, Marketing to implement firm initiatives within Practice Groups.
• Lead people-focused initiatives, onboarding/offboarding, training, and career development.
• Monitor budgets, staffing models, profitability, and matter management; drive improvements.
• Collaborate on client reporting, budgets, and cross-practice initiatives.
• Promote clear communication; address morale, retention, and performance challenges.
