We are hiring an IoT Solutions Architecture Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services, assisting customers with solution architecture, design, and delivery.

Location: This is a remote role, managing a team in one of three regions: Americas, EMEA, or APAC. You must be located in one of these regions to manage your team spanning multiple time zones.

Our IoT mission is to enable companies to operate fleets of secure connected devices. Canonical provides the Ubuntu OS and kernel, with secure update and management mechanisms. Our customers develop mission-critical control systems, gateways, and appliances that require high security and quality standards. We aim to extend this security to the consumer electronics and device markets.

Our Field Engineers are thought leaders in embedded Linux, taking a hands-on approach to strategy and delivery. They are passionate about helping customers achieve technical and business goals and demonstrate how Canonical's open source approach benefits emerging edge compute fields. They also focus on developing their colleagues’ skills and understanding of customer business thinking.

This role requires a unique blend of skills. Candidates should be proficient in Linux, coding, and scripting, with experience in low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development. They should thrive in a fast-paced environment with diverse client engagements, driven by ambition and technical expertise. They should also be team-oriented and proud of collective success.

The responsibilities include:

1. Leading and developing a team of Field engineers across presales and professional services.
2. Solving customer problems by promoting our technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
3. Managing a remote team within a single major time zone.
4. Providing coaching, mentorship, and career development feedback.
5. Monitoring team health indicators.
6. Implementing disciplined engineering processes.
7. Representing your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
8. Developing and promoting excellent engineering and organizational practices.
9. Planning and tracking progress on goals and projects.
10. Participating actively in leadership collaborations.

Ideal candidates will have:

1. An outstanding academic record from high school and university.
2. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
3. Extensive experience with embedded Linux (e.g., Yocto).
4. Deep Linux experience, preferably with Debian or Ubuntu.
5. Fluency in at least one of Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
6. Team management experience.
7. Experience engaging with customers.
8. Professional proficiency in English.
9. Strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
10. Result-driven with a personal commitment to commitments.
11. Ability to articulate the business value of technology.
12. A humble learner and quick study.

Additional desirable traits include RTOS experience, multilingual skills, and prior remote, diverse, distributed work experience.
