Assurant, Inc. is seeking a Director of Investor Relations to lead strategies fostering relationships with investors and manage comprehensive IR communications. The role involves supporting earnings processes, conducting market analyses, and developing key investor events, requiring a strong financial background and experience in investor relations.
Overview of Position
Reporting to the VP, Investor Relations, the Director of Investor Relations represents a critical role and is responsible for implementing Investor Relations strategy by fostering relationships with the Investment Community and Executive Management and developing supporting IR communications including: investor presentations and quarterly financial earnings materials (script, news release and Q&A). He/she also will conduct market, industry and peer analysis and manage key investor relations programs such as investor day, marketing and other company-sponsored events, etc.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Act as a trusted advisor to VP of Investor Relations while supporting all aspects of the Investor Relations function, including:
Supporting all aspects of quarterly earnings calls (press release, script, Q&A and presentation)
Develop, organize and support execution of yearly Investor Relations calendar
Lead set-up, development and execution of investor events – conferences, meetings, investor days, etc including plan and manage investor events from end-to-end
Lead peer analysis with support of IR analyst and information sharing with Strategy team
Track key news/trends around insurance/home warranty to gain and share in-depth information about the industry
Monitor shareholder base and stock price performance
Explore best-in-class IR practices and drive implementation
Act as a trusted resource for Executive Management
On-going participation in discussions with CEO/CFO, including quarterly earnings process
Vocalize and synthesize recommendations and thoughts to represent the Street perspective to Executive Management on an ongoing basis, including (but not limited to):
Quarterly earnings
M&A
Capital deployment
Valuation
Investor events (i.e. investor days)
Building stronger relationships with buy-side/sell-side analysts
Interact with analysts/investors on an ongoing basis through virtual/in-person outreach
Attend and participate at in-person investor conference/meetings
Quickly develop into a trusted spokesperson for financial community and become a secondary Investor Relations resource
Support strategic investor communications to enhance investors understanding of business model, growth opportunities and financial results
Quarterly Earnings
Responsible for earnings release and Q&A development
Script writing responsibilities to be pursued over time
Assist in leading cross function communication with Comms, Marketing, M&A, etc.
Responsible for development of Board of Directors, MCOM and ad-hoc presentations
Investor day and/or other investor events
Develop strong internal relationships
Partner and liaise with FP&A, Accounting, Actuarial, Corporate Communications and businesses to coordinate and facilitate information sharing across the organization
Support the development of enhanced employee education program
Lead Sr. IR Analyst while supporting development
Manage analyst priorities on a daily basis
Some travel required
What are the requirements needed for this position?
College degree – preferably with a degree in finance, accounting, communication/PR
Minimum 10 years’ work experience, in investor relations, finance, and/or public relations knowledge with at least 3 years of experience in Investor Relations
Prior experience leading investor discussions preferred
Prior experience within insurance industry preferred
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Understanding of disclosure laws, SEC and NYSE requirements and sound corporate governance practices
Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
Strong financial skills and analytical skills in analyzing financial statements; solid understanding of finance and capital markets
Excellent organizational skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy
Recognizes and acts upon opportunities; takes initiative; self-starter yet ability to work collaboratively on a team
Ability to confidently interact with all levels of management and external investment professionals
