Garry Executive Search has been retained by a Northwestern Mutual-affiliated private client group, which operates day to day like an independent advisory practice, to recruit an Investment Operations Associate supporting the Director of Investment Operations. The office is currently in Milwaukee, WI and is relocating to Brooklyn, NY in October 2026.
This is intentionally a detail-heavy, task-driven role, not a senior strategic seat. It rewards accuracy and follow-through, and it comes with a real, defined path to grow into more responsibility over time. The firm gives candidates the resources of a major institution with the feel of a boutique practice.
What You'll Be Doing
- Process and monitor account openings, transfers, rollovers, and account maintenance requests
- Initiate money movement including asset transfers, wires, and cash transactions, and handle service requests like beneficiary updates, distributions, and banking changes
- Serve as the primary liaison with custodians and internal teams to resolve operational issues, and review documentation for accuracy and compliance
- Support portfolio implementation, trading, and rebalancing as directed, including verbal authorizations, trade confirms, and brokerage trade processing
- Assist with account reconciliation, reporting, and quality control, and proactively flag inefficiencies and recommend process improvements
Background They're Looking For
- Active Series 7 and 63 required (Series 66 accepted in lieu of 63), must be licensed on day one, no exceptions
- 2 or more years of experience in financial services, investment operations, client service, or a related field
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent industry experience
- Detail-oriented and task-driven, someone who values accuracy and follow-through as much as seniority
- Organized and able to manage multiple workflows and deadlines at once, with strong written and verbal communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook; prior Pershing experience a plus but not required
- Wants to build a career step by step through a defined growth path, not walk straight into a senior strategic role
- $60,000 to $95,000 base salary depending on experience and licensing + Bonus
- Choice of three medical plans, with the firm covering 65% of premiums for both employee-only and dependent coverage
- Dental coverage, with the firm covering 50% of employee-only and dependent premiums
- Long-term disability, 100% employer paid, covering 60% of salary
- $20,000 in life insurance coverage, 100% employer paid
- 401(k) plan eligible after 6 months, with a 3% non-elective employer contribution and potential discretionary profit sharing
- Generous PTO plus up to 24 remote work days per year
- Modified summer hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day
- Reimbursement for professional designations and licensing
- Monthly parking and phone stipend
- Quarterly team outings and routine in-office lunch catering
Why This Role Stands Out
- A defined path, not a dead end. Senior Investment Operations Associate, Lead Investment Operations Associate, Investment Operations Manager, and Director of Investment Operations are all real steps here
- Autonomy you earn and keep, with leadership that listens and operates collaboratively
- A growing firm with real culture, great clients, and a tight-knit team
- Big-firm resources, boutique feel, the backing of a major institution with an independent, boutique day-to-day
