Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Inventory Manager in San Francisco to build and operate the inventory function from the ground up. You will start with an empty room and determine racks, shelving, bins, labels, scanners, and workflows to create a functional stockroom.

You will personally execute core inventory activities, establish procedures, hire and manage contractors as the operation scales, and own internal logistics across facilities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or related fields.
• Experience building or improving an inventory operation.
• Strong knowledge of receiving, putaway, picking, kitting, cycle counting, transfers, reconciliation, and inventory controls.
• Willingness to work directly in stockrooms, labs, and manufacturing spaces.
• Ability to move between strategic design and hands-on execution.
• Experience selecting and implementing physical inventory infrastructure (racks, shelving, labeling, scanners).
• Familiarity with ERP, WMS, MES, or inventory-management systems.
• Willingness to travel regularly among company facilities.

Responsibilities

• Build inventory operations from the ground up across OpenAI facilities.
• Design and set up stockrooms, receiving areas, and material-storage locations, including racks, shelving, bins, labeling equipment, scanners.
