Job summary

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist 2 to oversee statewide inventory, enforce procedures, and manage asset tracking across the agency. You will use IFMS and ServiceNow, deliver materials, and perform physical inventories while lifting up to 25–30 pounds.

The role requires hands-on warehouse work, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. Friday–Monday hours and travel within Ohio are possible; union OCSEA.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain statewide inventory of agency hardware, peripherals, furniture, and equipment.
  • Enforce inventory control procedures, salvage, and surplus disposal.
  • Use IFMS and ServiceNow to track inventory and reconcile receipts.
  • Deliver, receive, and distribute forms, pamphlets, envelopes, and brochures statewide.
  • Load/unload shipping vehicles and move stock using pallet jacks/forklifts.
  • Inspect shipments, review packing slips, verify deliveries.
  • Assign asset numbers and update inventory records.
  • Remove obsolete equipment following procedures.
  • Maintain shipping/receiving records and tracking docs.
  • Prepare and ship equipment statewide via USPS and vendors.
  • Perform annual/ random inventories (lift 25–30 lbs).
  • Back up other specialists and support online forms ordering.
  • Attend meetings, prepare reports, travel as needed.

Office of Employee and Business Services

The Office of Employee and Business Services (OEBS) provides customer service and operational support to ODJFS through five bureaus: Business Services, Civil Rights and Labor Relations, Human Resources, Multimedia Services, and Training and Educational Services. What You Will Do

The Inventory Control Specialist 2 in Business Services supports ODJFS’s mission by ensuring accurate, compliant, and well‑managed inventory processes across the agency. In this role, selected candidates help maintain statewide inventories, enforce inventory‑control procedures, and support the movement, tracking, and reconciliation of essential equipment, materials, and forms used throughout ODJFS. By managing inventory efficiently and safely, this position directly contributes to operational continuity and supports high‑quality services to Ohioans.

Job Duties Include:

  • Maintain extensive statewide inventory of agency computer hardware, peripherals, furniture, and other equipment.
  • Implement and enforce agency procedures on inventory control, salvage, and surplus disposal.
  • Use proprietary inventory software (IFMS) and ServiceNow to track inventory, reconcile receipts, and manage warehouse stock.
  • Deliver, receive, and distribute ODJFS forms, pamphlets, envelopes, and brochures across statewide locations.
  • Load and unload shipping vehicles and move stock within the warehouse using pallet jacks, forklifts, and related equipment.
  • Inspect incoming shipments, review packing slips and purchase orders, and verify accuracy of all deliveries.
  • Assign asset numbers, apply tags, and update inventory records for incoming computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Remove obsolete or worn‑out equipment from inventory following established procedures.
  • Maintain daily warehouse shipping and receiving records, spreadsheets, and tracking documentation.
  • Prepare and ship equipment and materials statewide using USPS and contracted vendors.
  • Perform annual and random physical inventories to verify system accuracy (lifting up to 25–30 pounds).
  • Serve as backup to other Inventory Control Specialists and support workflow management for online forms ordering systems.
  • Carry out additional duties such as attending meetings, preparing reports, maintaining logs, and traveling as needed for deliveries or trainings.

Qualifications

The candidate, at minimum, must have the following:

Option 1:
  • 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in inventory control;
  • AND 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in electronic data processing related to inventory control;
  • AND 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in public relations.
Option 2:
  • 9 mos. exp. as Inventory Control Specialist, 64551.
Option 3:
  • The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Pay Information

This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA/AFSCME Pay Range. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $23.68 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.
