YOUR IMPACT STARTS HERE

We're looking for an Inventory Control Specialist to own inventory integrity and traceability across ERP and shop floor systems at our Rock Island, TN facility. In this role, you'll maintain accurate, compliant, and efficient control of raw materials and finished goods in a high-volume manufacturing environment — executing cycle counts, investigating variances, managing heat/lot and Country of Origin requirements, and ensuring materials are properly received, located, and issued to support uninterrupted production. You'll work closely with Supply Chain, Buyer/Planners, and Operations, using data analysis and continuous improvement methods to anticipate shortages, optimize inventory levels and warehouse layout, and strengthen material flow and visibility. This is an opportunity to serve as the facility's key subject matter expert for inventory accuracy, compliance, and process improvement.

What You'll Build & Own
  • Perform regular inventory cycle counts, with sign-off required for the first six months, and maintain 98–100% inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliations, and root-cause analysis of variances
  • Investigate inventory inaccuracies in BPCS/AS400, tracing back to the shop order that caused them, and maintain historical records to identify recurring problem materials
  • Organize inventory into defined locations, recommend more strategically sound locations to the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager, and maintain a shared Excel file of locations
  • Inspect incoming material for quality and damage, and ensure correct material is received into appropriate inventory locations through the internal locator system, BPCS, and Mendix
  • Optimize warehouse layout, storage methods, and material flow to reduce travel time and improve throughput; participate in 5S events related to inventory
  • Analyze work center hour usage to develop detailed work center schedules
  • Develop and manage an internal inventory tracking system in Excel, including pivot tables, to record stock levels of delivered materials
  • Assist material handlers with receiving material, ensuring correct heat number and Country of Origin are recorded into inventory and allocatable locations
  • Monitor raw steel, plate, bar, pipe, and finished product stocks, ensuring correct heat/lot traceability
  • Manage Country of Origin (COO) tracking and work with material handlers to ensure it is consistently and correctly marked on materials
  • Support Buyer/Planners by analyzing daily and semi-weekly product and supply level requirements to anticipate inventory shortages or compliance issues for upcoming shop orders
  • Analyze facility inventory min/max levels on a regular basis
  • Serve as the on-site subject matter expert for material inventory locations, maintaining accurate records via the BPCS locator system, Victaulic part codes, and a shared Excel file
  • Issue material into the BPCS ERP system after shop order completion and maintain historical over-usage data by operator, material, shop order, and date
  • Manage scrap in the Mendix shop floor control system, maintaining and analyzing historical scrap data
  • Verify material availability for released shop orders, notify Buyer/Planners of shortages, and perform inventory adjustments and corrections
  • Report on inventory levels, supply chain progress, and procedural efficiency to the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager in weekly 1:1s
  • Collaborate with the Mendix team to build a process for tracking work-in-process (WIP) materials within the first 3 to 5 months, including visual dashboards and daily/weekly reporting
  • Investigate aging, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory (SLOB) and recommend disposition or scrap
  • Lead and participate in the annual 100% physical inventory count
  • Lead and participate in Lean/5S and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste and improving material handling
  • Identify root causes of inventory issues using tools such as 5-Why, pivot tables, and Pareto analysis
  • Propose process improvements to strengthen traceability, reduce carrying costs, and prevent stockouts
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of inventory, supply chain, or production analysis experience; manufacturing/metalwork strongly preferred
  • Highly proficient with ERP systems, preferably BPCS and possibly M3
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly master complex ERP and manufacturing software (preferably BPCS/AS400 ERP and Mendix shop floor control systems)
  • Advanced capability in data analytics and reporting
  • Highly proficient and experienced in Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn raw data into actionable insights
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing flows, MRP concepts, and steel industry traceability requirements
  • Comfort working daily in both a manufacturing plant environment and an office setting
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume, high-variability production environment
  • Strong ownership, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement mindset
What Sets You Apart
  • Prior experience with stainless and carbon steel raw materials and finished goods, including differences in grades, schedules, and global vs. AIS material
  • Experience supporting or leading Lean/5S continuous improvement initiatives in a steel or metalwork environment
