Job summary

Amentum is seeking an Engineering Designer/Drafter to develop precise 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for naval hardware. The role emphasizes Inventor-based design, strong model management, and adherence to GD&T standards.

You will collaborate with engineers, drafters, and field personnel to support hardware from concept through fabrication and sustainment, ensuring configuration-controlled release and lifecycle visibility.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree or equivalent practical experience in mechanical design technologies.
• Five+ years of hands-on mechanical CAD experience using Autodesk Inventor in relevant environments.
• Experience creating and modifying mechanical parts, assemblies, and production-level drawings.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing practices.
• Experience with design changes, drawing revisions, BOM updates, and documentation control.
• Ability to interpret sketches, redlines, and vendor/legacy drawings.

Responsibilities

• Develop fully parametric 3D Inventor models and assemblies from sketches, measurements, and design direction.
• Translate design intent into practical geometry supporting fabrication, installation, and future reuse.
• Maintain Inventor assemblies with proper constraints and design intent across revisions.
• Assist design engineers by identifying modeling challenges, tolerances, and fabrication constraints early.
• Revise models for optimization and configuration updates; ensure traceability of changes.
• Create 2D drawings from 3D models using Inventor and AutoCAD and ensure compliance with GD&T and ASME standards.
