Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of related mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drawings.
• Strong GD&T drafting knowledge and tolerance analyses.
• Experience with stress calculations, test procedures, and results analysis.
• Engineering documentation experience including calculations and specs.
• Understanding of production/manufacturing processes and cost impact.
• Experience designing downhole electromechanical tools and familiarity with oil/gas environments.
• Offshore or oil and gas engineering experience is preferred.
• Master’s degree and downhole tool familiarity are a plus.

Insight Global is looking for a R&D Mechanical Engineer for a global oil field services company in Aberdeen, UK. to join the engineering team. This individual will initially support product line maintenance activities, including investigating field issues, resolving manufacturing challenges, and identifying design improvements while learning the company’s downhole tools, products, and engineering processes. As project needs arise, the engineer can become involved in the design, analysis, testing, and validation of downhole electromechanical tools from early prototypes through final tool validation with leadership from Sr. Engineers. Day to day, they will use SolidWorks to create and modify 3D models and engineering drawings, perform stress calculations and tolerance analyses, develop test procedures, analyze test results, and produce supporting engineering documentation. They will work closely with lead engineers, project managers, manufacturing teams, and field personnel to maintain existing products and support new engineering initiatives globally.

Target Compensation: $45/hr - $60/hr USD

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of related mechanical engineering experience
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, including creating and modifying 3D models
• Strong understanding of GD&T drafting techniques
• Experience creating assembly drawings, piece-part drawings, and check layouts
• Experience performing stress calculations and tolerance stack-up studies
• Experience developing test procedures, conducting tests, and analyzing results
• Engineering documentation experience, including calculations, feasibility studies, purchased-part specifications, and inspection documents
• Understanding of production and manufacturing processes, including potential cost and design impacts
• Ability to investigate and resolve field, manufacturing, and product-performance issues
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, project, and field teamsMaster’s degree in Mechanical EngineeringExperience with completion tools, well completions, or other downhole equipment
• Experience designing downhole electromechanical tools
• Familiarity with tubular products and assembly techniques
• Familiarity with CFD and FEA, including the ability to assess and interpret results
• Understanding of common downhole tool materials, coatings, yield strengths, and operating conditions
• Familiarity with ISO and API validation programs (IS14310 and API 11D1)
• Experience incorporating reliability, HSE, and quality-analysis techniques into the design process
• Previous offshore or oil and gas engineering experience
