Job summary

A local school district is seeking an Interpreter Tutor (ASL) for the 25-26 school year. This position requires fluency in ASL to support the district's deaf and hard of hearing program. The purpose of this position is to support our district’s deaf and hard of hearing program. The job of interpreter/tutor is to facilitate communication between persons who are deaf and hard of hearing and others; convey teacher instruction and intent; assist students with daily instructional activities; provide voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice support; participate as a team member to plan, review and share information; and serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with hard-of-hearing and deaf persons.

Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • Fluent in ASL.
  • Completion of an Interpreter Training program.
  • Prior job-related experience with a background in an educational interpreter training preferred.
  • BA degree preferred.
State ASL Interpreter Tutor Requirements
  • Minimum 4.0 score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and a passing score on the EIPA written test. (At minimum, the written test is taken and passed with the performance test taken and in process of receiving score.)
  • OR
    • National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and a passing score on the EIPA written test. (An educational interpreter who has not achieved the performance standard required by RCW 28A.410.271 may provide or continue providing educational interpreter services for one calendar year after receipt of most recent educational interpreter assessment results, or eighteen months after completing the assessment, whichever period is longer, if the interpreter can demonstrate ongoing efforts to achieve the required performance standard.)
