GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides comprehensive interpretation services for non-English speaking patients and visitors, their families and medical department staff. This position reports to the Director of Customer Relations.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

• 1. Demonstrates awareness of, and application of, all policies and procedures.
• 2. Accountable for all their interpretation activities.
• 3. Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to changes in workload which may include shift and/or day changes and/or overtime as needed.
• 4. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills. Consistently completes assigned tasks and/or duties in a reasonable amount of time. Demonstrates service excellence in all activities and interactions.
• 5. Communicates in a consistently professional manner to all individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. High School diploma or GED.
• 2. Familiarity with culture involved.
• 3. Bi-lingual in specified language(s) with related medical education/training, medical terminology or experience in the medical center, hospital or clinic.
• 4. Flexibility in work hours and availability for unplanned hours as interpreting needs arise.
• 5. Successfully pass a BMC assigned Medical Language Proficiency test and/or utilized interpreting skills in a medical setting for 2+ years.
