Moraine Valley Community College seeks an International Student Services Specialist to support enrollment, orientation, advising and socialization for international students at the Main Campus in Palos Hills, IL.

You will assist in addressing policies, procedures and compliance related to immigration, tuition and insurance while developing programs that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; strong planning and execution skills.
Minimum 1–3 years professional experience, preferably in education or social services.
Interest or experience in cross-cultural/ international affairs; SEVIS/DSO experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Duties

Under the supervision of the Director of International Student Affairs, the International Student Services Specialist will assist in providing administrative services and conduct activities necessary for enrollment, orientation, advising and socialization for international students. The International Student Services Specialist will also provide support to the Director in addressing college policies and procedures for international student registration, tuition, and insurance and conduct activities necessary for compliance with U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations. The International Student Services Specialist is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide various administrative services to new and currently enrolled international students including but not limited to, intake advising, registration assistance, verifications of enrollment, and advising about passport, visa and immigration regulations and procedures.
Coordinate international student insurance and tuition policies and procedures.
Assist in the planning and implementation of the international student orientation program.
Develop and implement a program of student socialization activities and cultural events.
Provide academic advising and assist international students in course selection, and understanding program and degree requirements. Monitor student educational progress.
Maintain student records, reports and documentation required for compliance with U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations and submit reports as required.
Conduct publicity and outreach activities to students to enhance interest, involvement and participation in ISA programs, policies and socialization.
Utilize office technology and database for international student record management.
Assist in providing prospective students with admission information and assistance. Address inquiries from international students, community members, foreign born and resident aliens.
Provide continuous support and conduct related student housing services, Host Home Program and apartment assistance. Work with International Student Housing Specialist to assure student placement in comfortable secure housing.
Provide referrals to other college offices and/or community agencies as appropriate.

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree is required. Must have demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects or programs; Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; Minimum one (1) to three (3) years professional work experience required—preferably in education or social service; Demonstrated interest or experience in cross-cultural, foreign student, or international affairs. Preferable: experience with SEVIS system and as a Designated School Official (DSO).
