Job summary

State of Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services seeks dedicated candidates for investigative roles statewide. The positions involve conducting administrative and criminal investigations across multiple locations and require interviewing victims and witnesses, collecting evidence, and producing clear investigation reports.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police Training Commission regulation.
• Two years of investigative work as an Internal Investigation Detective, Provisional; or two years of comparable law enforcement investigative experience in a municipal, county, state, or federal police agency.

Position Duties

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Two years of investigative work as an Internal Investigation Detective, Provisional; or two years of comparable law enforcement investigative experience in a municipal, county, state, or federal police agency.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

• Experience involving allegations of misconduct or suspected criminal activity by employees.
• Experience preparing criminal and administrative investigation reports.

Limitations on Selection

This recruitment is limited to applicants who currently possess, or have possessed in the past three years, a Law Enforcement (Police) Certification from the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

• Must possess and maintain a current Maryland certification as a Police Officer.
• May be required to hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if duties involve motor vehicle operation.

Special Requirements

• Fluent in spoken and written English; effective communication with diverse populations.
• Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or another language is a plus.
• Must meet selection standards for police officer training: U.S. citizenship or resident alien status; at least 21 years of age; complete background investigation; oral interview; physical examination; polygraph and psychological evaluations.
• Must be able to perform job-related functions; may be required to bear firearms and demonstrate safe use and care of firearms periodically.
• Subject to 24‑hour call‑in and required to provide a reachable telephone number.
• Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the applicable Maryland regulations.
