Main Purpose of Job

To provide direct supervision to investigators from Internal Investigation Detective Provisional to Internal Investigation Detective Sergeants assigned to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit.

POSITION DUTIES

To provide direct supervision to investigators from Internal Investigation Detective Provisional to Internal Investigation Detective Sergeants assigned to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Police Training Commission regulation.
• Experience: Three years of investigative work as a Special Detective Investigator or in a municipal, county, state or federal police agency supervising multiple detectives. Candidates must be retired in good standing or have separated from service in good standing from a certified state, local, or federal law enforcement agency and eligible for a Maryland Police Training Commission certification.

• The above educational requirement is set by the Police Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland.
• Candidates may substitute education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 60 credit hours, including at least 15 credit hours of criminal justice courses for up to one year of the required experience.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

• Possess a police officer certification and currently deputized to a Federal Task Force.
• Have experience with applying for and managing electronic surveillance.
• Have experience working closely with or supervising the daily activities of intelligence analysts.
• Able to work a flexible work schedule to include evenings, weekends or 24/7 on call.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
• Applicants for this classification, formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment, meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07, available at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
• Employees in this classification may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.

Special Requirements

• Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Police Training Commission for Police Officers in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Selection standards for police officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 04, Chapter 01 and include the following:
• U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• A complete background investigation
• Oral interview
• Physical examination
• Polygraph and psychological evaluations.
• Candidates for this classification will be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job-related functions.
• Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms, and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
• Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24-hours a day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
• Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, 12.04.01 and Police Training Commission General Regulation .01-1, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
