Job summary

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) is hiring for an Internal Developer Platform Engineer within the Applied Software Group (ASG). You will own, improve, and promote our internal developer platform and related tools, helping engineers move faster with more reliable workflows.

This in-office role requires a San Francisco presence 2-3 days per week, collaborating with fellow engineers and the investing partnership to deliver scalable infrastructure and tooling across the firm's products.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python 3, Rust or similar backend languages.
• Experience shipping developer platforms or internal tooling that improved velocity.
• Experience deploying services on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; CI/CD systems like GitHub Actions or CircleCI.
• Experience with production SQL databases; NoSQL experience a plus.
• Infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform, Pulumi) are a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Own, improve, and adopt internal developer platform and tooling.
• Work with teams across the firm to reduce friction in daily workflows.
• Develop shared tooling, templates, and libraries to accelerate development.
• Support observability, monitoring, and alerting for self-serve ops.
• Ensure security and compliance in developer workflows with Cybersecurity.
• Create and maintain developer documentation and runbooks.
• Ship improvements iteratively based on user feedback.
• Take ownership from development through production support with autonomy.
