Job summary

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for an Internal Audit Intern in the Internal Audit Department, located in Lansing, MI. The position runs as a full-time summer internship from May 17, 2027 to August 13, 2027, at a pay rate of $23.00 per hour.

The intern will assist in establishing processes and procedures, participate in risk assessments, analyze data, and support audit reporting under supervision from a mentor within the department.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2027.
• Must be enrolled in fall classes 2027.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing audit engagements, including collecting and analyzing audit evidence and preparing workpapers.
• Support issue tracking, follow-up on audit findings, and monitor remediation efforts.
• Participate in risk assessments, control evaluations, and related research on industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Perform data analysis to identify trends or anomalies and contribute to audit reports and presentations.
• Provide general support to the Internal Audit team and assist with the Optro Analytics project to improve workflow efficiency.
