Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) in San Ramon is seeking a motivated Technology Intern to join the Technology team for a 12-week paid Summer Internship.

You will contribute to software engineering tasks, develop and test solutions, manage tasks, and collaborate with domain experts across the CAT E&A team to leverage data. This internship offers real-world troubleshooting and hands-on experience with catastrophe modeling applications.

Qualifications

As a Technology Intern, you will participate in and contribute to project and operational work under the guidance of experienced Technology professionals . We are seeking a motivated and curious individual to join ourSan Ramon office with the Technology team as aSummer Intern. This 12-week paid internship offers a deep dive into the world of Technology.

You will:

• Participate as an active member of the software engineering team, contributing to project and operational work
• Develop, test, troubleshoot, and document software solutions with guidance from experienced engineers
• Take ownership of assigned development tasks and follow them through completion
• Work with domain experts (engineers and scientists) across the CAT E&A team to enhance our use of available data
• Participate in the team's normal development processes, discussions, and meetings
• Investigate technical problems and develop thoughtful solutions using available tools and resources
• Manage assigned work and priorities while maintaining strong attention to quality and accuracy
• Communicate progress, questions, challenges, and blockers with the team

Qualifications:

• College concentration in one of the STEM disciplines or prior experience and demonstrated passion in an Information Technology role
• Proven coding, analytical and problem‑solving skills as normally acquired through the pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine learning, or a related field.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment
• Experience with Git, Python, SQL and Docker
• Familiarity with a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Experience with databases, data processing, and data pipelines
• Knowledge of machine learning and experience with geospatial data
• All candidates must have permanent work authorization in the United States
• Strongfocus,attentiontodetail andaccuracy
• Exposure to or experience with AI‑assisted development tools and an interest in applying AI effectively within the software development lifecycle is a plus

Pay Transparency:

The base salary range for this position in San Ramon is $25/hour - $28/hour. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
