Job summary

The Hershey Company in Hazleton, PA is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic Intern to join our plant maintenance team. You'll learn industrial maintenance practices, safety procedures, and reliability-focused workflows while performing day-to-day upkeep and basic troubleshooting on high-speed confectionery equipment.

This hands-on internship emphasizes preventive maintenance, tool/good practices, and teamwork in a food-manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical/Electronic Technology, or related field.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems (motors, bearings, conveyors, pumps) and electrical fundamentals.
• Willingness to learn safety procedures and follow site protocols.
• Strong manual skills and ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
• Clear communication and ability to follow instructions and documentation.
• Ability to work weekends and be flexible to work any shift.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preventive maintenance tasks (inspections, cleaning, and basic checks).
• Support work orders: document observations, help gather parts/tools, and close out tasks.
• Perform basic troubleshooting under supervision (mechanical issues, equipment resets, visual inspections).
• Help with repairs and installations using standard procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance areas and follow LOTO procedures.
• Support inventory tracking for tools and consumables.
• Participate in safety walks and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Learn and be responsible for the required task given to you.
