Tallgrass invites engineering interns to join the IEC team in our Lakewood, CO office for Summer 2027. You will work alongside experienced professionals on instrumentation, electrical, and control systems projects, gaining hands-on PLC/HMI exposure and practical industry knowledge.

This temporary, full-time internship runs May through August for 10 weeks, with pay range $26.18–$37.09 USD per hour and a housing stipend potential.

Qualifications

Enrolled in an approved Bachelor's degree program with expected graduation between Dec 2026 and May 2028.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong problem-solving and quick-learning mindset.

Responsibilities

Assist with instrumentation, electrical, and controls projects.

What this Department does

The IEC Engineering team designs, commissions, and supports the control systems that help Tallgrass operate safely and efficiently. The team programs PLCs and HMIs, develop project documentation and company standards, and provides support for instrumentation, electrical, and control systems. There's a big focus on building tools that improve workflows, support engineering efficiency, and contribute to meaningful projects that impact day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

What will you do:

You will work side by side with experienced professionals as contributing members of diverse work teams who bring vision and opportunity to the forefront. As a Tallgrass Intern, you will partner with various departments in support of multiple projects on existing assets and operations, as well as the exploration and development of new avenues and opportunities. The internship is intended to help you develop your work skills and knowledge while providing a link between your educational goals and career objectives.

You Can Expect To

Learn about Instrumentation, Electrical, and Controls by helping the IEC team deploy and support industrial automation control systems, including PLCs and HMIs.
Assist with projects to implement new control systems and upgrade existing infrastructure.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting and gain practical experience with PLCs, instrumentation, and electrical gear.
Establish a deep understanding of HMI applications and Python programming by helping to manage and improve a standard library of programming objects and templates deployed company wide.

What You Will Learn

How to execute challenging and innovative Oil and Gas and Green Energy projects.
How to play a key role assisting in the development of company standards.
Valuable experience working alongside engineers and operations teams.

Education

Students actively enrolled in an approved Bachelor's degree program with expected graduation date of December 2026 through May 2028

Experience/Specific Knowledge

Proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications and platforms.

What Else Do You Need To Know

Our internships are temporary full-time positions, in-person/hybrid at our Lakewood office. We will host our Summer 2027 interns from May-August for 10 weeks.

Compensation And Other Benefits

Pay Range $26.18-$37.09 USD hourly
The final pay for this role will depend on a variety of factors, including a specific candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and working location. The total compensation package for this role may also include paid time off, a housing stipend, and more.
