Job summary

A global airline is seeking an Intern for Flight Operations to provide students with invaluable exposure to the airline's operations. This 16-week internship includes mentoring, support in business processes, and possible travel opportunities. Candidates must possess a high school diploma, FAA Commercial rating, and the ability to work legally in the U.S. A competitive hourly rate of $17.50 applies, with various benefits offered during the internship.

Job description

Intern-Flight Operations, Pilot-Professional Flight (Spring 2026)

United Airlines Flight Operations Intern Program (FOIP) is designed to give enrolled students insight and exposure into the operation of a global airline for 16 weeks. The FOIP combines a student’s academic and career interests with valuable work experience in the commercial air carrier environment.

Locations: Chicago, IL/ Denver, CO/ Houston, TX/ Los Angeles, CA/ Newark, NJ/ San Francisco, CA/ Washington, DC/Orlando, FL

Start and end dates: January 12, 2026 - May 1, 2026

During the internship thestudent will be assigned a mentor to work with who is responsible for monitoring their progress throughout the semester. The mentor will be responsible for assigning tasks, special projects and directing the intern on a daily basis. There may also be opportunities to travel to other cities within our network on business trips and off-site visits

  • Support Flight Operations business processes in and staff in Chief Pilot Offices, at the Flight Training Center, and or at the Corporate Support Center, as directed.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • FAA Commercial rating
  • FAA Medical (First, Second, or Third class required
  • Valid (Not Expired) Passport required for international travel
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must be willing to relocate and secure housing in assigned location
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S for any employer without sponsorship or future sponsorship for a full/part time position
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

The starting monthly rate for this position is $17.50/hour dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education level, and skills. This range is based on a temporary full-time schedule.
