Qualifications

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a manufacturing and engineering environment.

  • Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, machining, and maintenance teams to support operational objectives.

Job description

The Martin Marietta Engineering Internship at the Salisbury Shop provides students with meaningful, hands-on experience supporting engineering, fabrication, machining, and repair operations within the Company's only crusher repair facility.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Intern will gain exposure to a wide variety of engineering and manufacturing processes while working alongside experienced engineers, machinists, fabricators, and welders. This opportunity allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world industrial environment while developing technical, analytical, and project management skills.

Interns will gain experience in design, detailing, fabrication oversight, testing oversight, and final project delivery. Additional learning opportunities include CNC machining processes, CNC cutting processes, welding operations, and machine assembly and disassembly methods. Through these experiences, interns will develop a deeper understanding of manufacturing, equipment maintenance, and engineering practices that support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

  • Gain hands‑on experience using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and vision measuring systems.
  • Assist with engineering drawings and detailing using SolidWorks, Autodesk Advance Steel, and AutoCAD.
  • Observe and support CNC machining and CNC cutting processes within the manufacturing environment.
  • Gain exposure to welding operations and machine assembly/disassembly activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, fabrication, machining, and maintenance teams to support operational objectives.
  • Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic while working independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, Values, policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or Autodesk Advance Steel required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a manufacturing and engineering environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in both office and shop environments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, or perform physical activities for extended periods as required.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety‑toe shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, high‑visibility clothing, and other required safety equipment while in operational areas.
