Job summary

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is seeking a motivated intern to support the Contracts Administration and Procurement team. This internship offers hands-on experience in public sector procurement and contract management while working on various agency projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review vendor insurance certificates for compliance.
  • Assist with purchase requisition reviews and purchase order processing.
  • Conduct vendor reference checks and research procurement-related information.
  • Support contract and purchasing activities, including invoice processing.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, scanning, and filing.
  • Assist with procurement and contract management systems.
  • Quality control check documents for consistency.

Opportunity

Are you interested in learning about public procurement and contract administration while working for an organization recognized for leadership in water management and innovation? The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) is seeking a motivated intern with strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills to support the Agency's Contracts Administration and Procurement (CAP) team. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in public sector procurement and contract administration while supporting a variety of Agency projects and operational needs.

Internship will provide exposure to procurement activities supporting engineering and construction projects, IT initiatives, operations and maintenance, professional services, and other critical public agency functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review vendor insurance certificates for compliance with agency requirements.
  • Assist with purchase requisition reviews and purchase order processing.
  • Conduct vendor reference checks and research project scopes of work and procurement-related information.
  • Support contract and purchasing activities, including invoice processing and check requests.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, document scanning and filing, copying, scheduling meetings, and maintaining procurement records.
  • Assist with enterprise procurement and contract management systems.
  • Quality control check documents for consistency and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, or current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Materials Management, or a closely related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time‑management and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Microsoft Access is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn, flexible, and able to assist with ad hoc projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Eligibility

Individuals who are members of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) are ineligible for intern positions with IEUA.

Internship Details
  • At least 15 to 20 hours per week; flexible schedule in accordance with supervisor.
  • Internship limited to 25 hours per week and 960 hours per fiscal year (July 1–June 30).
  • Minimum shift of four hours per day; internship not intended for short‑term summer, winter, or spring break only.
