Job summary

Consumers Energy in Michigan invites current college students to join our Engineering Internship/Co-Op Program. You'll work on a team delivering hands-on design and development for engineering projects across electric and gas domains, gaining exposure to energy delivery and operations.

This program emphasizes skill development, academic integration, and real hands-on experience through networking events, company tours, and the annual Intern Challenge.

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing an ABET-accredited engineering degree (Bachelor's or Master's).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in hands-on engineering design and development projects.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers on electric and gas engineering domains.
  • Engage in networking events, company tours, and the Intern Challenge.
  • Assist in day-to-day engineering tasks as part of a professional team.

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. What you will do:

Current college students of all levels will work as part of a larger team to provide hands-on support and design/development for various engineering aspects of our business. This could include work in energy delivery - electric engineering, gas engineering, energy operations, and more - all while helping create a better tomorrow for the communities we serve!In addition to working alongside full-time employees carrying out the engineering function for Consumers Energy, Engineering Interns/Co-Ops will have the option to participate in a number of additional optional events within the program. This includes intern networking events, company tours, and the consistently top-ranked philanthropic event, the Intern Challenge. There are so many new, exciting opportunities in the world of engineering. It's a very exciting time for Consumers Energy; come be a part of history - and fun!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Actively enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a specific focus in Various Engineering disciplines. The following MUST betrue to be eligible for an Intern role.

  • A current student:
    • currently pursuing Bachelor's in Engineering at ABET school OR
    • currently pursuing a Master's in Engineering at ABET school OR
    • currently pursuing an Engineering-related Master's while having completed a Bachelor's in Engineering at ABET school
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.7 or higher.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new assignments and projects
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Attitude and aptitude to learn new skills and concepts
  • Ability and willingness to work independently or as part of a team in order to complete tasks
  • Prior work and/or internship experience
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

This role may require reporting to an assigned headquarter. Leaders will discussthe work arrangements which best fit the nature of the work along with overall business needs.
