Job summary

The Hoyle Tanner Internship Program in the Bridge Group within our Ground Transportation Division is seeking a motivated intern. This is a paid internship with a start date anticipated in May 2027 and options for earlier start dates.

The position can be based out of our Chelmsford, MA, Burlington, VT, or Portsmouth, NH offices. You will assist engineers with planning, design, inspections, and construction support for bridge projects, prepare CAD drawings and contract plans, perform calculations

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BSCE program.
• EIT is preferred, or ability to obtain.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assisting engineers with planning, design, inspection, and construction support of bridge projects.
• Preparing CAD drawings and contract plans, performing engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
• Assisting with bridge inspections and site visits for projects under construction.
• Compiling technical reports and project documentation.
• Supporting project meetings and coordination efforts.

Start date is anticipated to be May of 2027. Earlier start dates are available on a limited basis. This internship can be based out of our Chelmsford, MA, Burlington, VT, or Portsmouth, NH office.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Assisting engineers with the planning, design, inspection, and construction support of bridge projects
• Preparing CADD drawings and contract plans, performing engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates
• Assisting with bridge inspections and site visits for projects under construction
• Compiling technical reports and project documentation
• Supporting project meetings and coordination efforts

This position provides hands-on experience with bridge design standards, engineering software, construction practices, and professional engineering procedures while working under the guidance of senior engineers.

Requirements:

• The preferred candidate will be currently enrolled in a BSCE program
• EIT is preferred, or ability to obtain
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus
