Hoyle Tanner is offering a paid internship in the Bridge Group of the Ground Transportation Division. The position is based in Chelmsford, MA, Burlington, VT, or Portsmouth, NH with a May 2027 start.

Interns will assist engineers with planning, design, inspections, and construction support for bridge projects while gaining hands-on experience in standards, software, and professional practices under senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in BSCE program
• EIT is preferred, or ability to obtain
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus

Description

We are seeking a motivated intern to join The Hoyle Tanner Internship Program in our Bridge Group within our Ground Transportation Division. This is a paid internship opportunity. Start date is anticipated to be May of 2027. Earlier start dates are available on a limited basis. This internship can be based out of our Chelmsford, MA, Burlington, VT, or Portsmouth, NH office.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Assisting engineers with the planning, design, inspection, and construction support of bridge projects
• Preparing CADD drawings and contract plans, performing engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates
• Assisting with bridge inspections and site visits for projects under construction
• Compiling technical reports and project documentation
• Supporting project meetings and coordination efforts

This position provides hands‑on experience with bridge design standards, engineering software, construction practices, and professional engineering procedures while working under the guidance of senior engineers.

Requirements

• The preferred candidate will be currently enrolled in a BSCE program
• EIT is preferred, or ability to obtain
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus
