Job summary

Parsec, LLC is seeking a Ground Person/Hostler Driver in Avon, Indiana to train at entry level and progress to hostler duties moving containers and supporting railcar loading. You will follow safety protocols and assist in preparing railcars for loading and unloading.

The role includes performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, directing crane operators, and coordinating with yard staff to maintain efficiency and safety in the intermodal yard.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Previous experience as a hostler driver or in a similar role within intermodal rail transportation is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to hostler truck operations.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate hostler trucks to move containers and trailers within the terminal yard, adhering to safety protocols and traffic rules.
• Follow dispatch instructions and prioritize tasks to ensure timely movement of containers to and from designated locations.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on hostler trucks and report maintenance issues or damages.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe terminal yard by removing debris and ensuring proper storage of containers and trailers.
• Record container and trailer movements accurately in the terminal's system and keep logs up to date.
• Comply with safety regulations, report hazards, and follow terminal rules and routes.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, gate clerks, and other yard personnel to ensure smooth operations.
