The Veterans Health Administration seeks an Intermediate Care Technician for ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting. Applicants must have specialized experience or relevant graduate education. Responsibilities include collaborating with healthcare providers for timely, effective patient care. Proficiency in English and strong clinical skills are essential.
The Incumbent performs ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting. All Intermediate Care Technicians are expected to communicate with their supervising physicians - licensed independent providers - and advanced practice providers to provide collaborative - timely and appropriate patient care.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 06/20/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation - but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement. In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Experience: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the federal service). Examples include - but are not limited to: preparing and administering medications via various methods, performing minor surgical procedures, ordering diagnostic studies, and reporting results. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit.
OR Education: One full year of graduate education directly related to the position's work (Transcripts Required).
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - and 7407(d).
Competencies: Clinical Data Collection/Documentation, Emergency Care, Patient Care, Technical Competence.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the military as a Hospital Corpsman - Combat Medic - Medical Technician is highly desired. Examples include but are not limited to: 4NOX, 68W, 18D, HM8404, HM8425, HM8402, HM8401, HM8403, HM8406, and other related specialties.
Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer work, and service programs. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, is credited.
Physical Requirements
The work involves extended periods of bending, standing, and walking, with physical exertion assisting patients. It requires physical fitness to perform tasks like heavy lifting, manual dexterity, and recurrent physical activities.
