Job summary

State of Missouri in Jefferson City is seeking an Accountant with strong GAAP background to prepare and analyze statewide financial reports and provide expert input on GASB statements.

You will extract and report data from the statewide accounting system, assist with maintenance and evaluation of the system, and deliver high‑level customer service to agency personnel while working independently or with a team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher; substitutions may be allowed for certifications or relevant experience.
  • Experience interpreting and applying GAAP.
  • Knowledge of GASB standards and governmental accounting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Familiarity with statewide accounting systems and data warehouse reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze statewide financial reports following GAAP.
  • Analyze GASB statements and assess their impact on statewide financial statements.
  • Extract, analyze, and report data from the statewide accounting system.
  • Assist with maintenance, review, analysis, and evaluation of the statewide accounting system.
  • Provide customer service support to all state agency personnel regarding accounting issues.

Job description

We are seeking a team member who is able to:

  • Apply critical thinking related to financial reporting.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to the multiple agency contacts we serve.
  • Formulate an opinion independently.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

  • Prepare and analyze statewide financial reports, including but not limited to the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Analyze and provide comments on the impact of proposed Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements and their effect on the State-wide financial statements.
  • Extract, analyze, and report on financial data retrieved from the statewide accounting system.
  • Assist with the maintenance, review, analysis, and evaluation of the statewide accounting system.
  • Provide customer service support to all State agency personnel regarding various accounting issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree. Substitutions may be allowed (for example, but not limited to, professional certifications or additional relevant experience)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying GAAP.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting and GASB Standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Knowledge of the statewide accounting system and data warehouse reports.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Remain flexible, self-motivated, and work independently or as a member of a group with little supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others in the unit and agency customers.
