Job summary

University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking an Interlibrary Loan Assistant to support daily ILL workflow, supervise student staff, and provide public service education to patrons. The role requires collaboration with multiple library units and ongoing participation in system-wide ILL improvements.

The position emphasizes accuracy in bibliographic verification, customer service excellence, and the ability to manage a fast-paced, diverse workload within a 40-hour week schedule (Tue-Sat).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Substantial experience using request tracking, inventory management software, library management software, or similar systems.
• Ability to perform bibliographic verification using online tools.
• Experience directing the work of others.
• Superior communication skills and customer service experience.
• Ability to assess and improve workflow processes.

Responsibilities

• Accepts and verifies interlibrary loan requests from UCSC patrons and libraries.
• Searches catalogs and uses bibliographic tools to verify requests (WorldCat, OCLC, Alma, WorldShare).
• Determines item availability and eligibility per policies; collaborates with related units as needed.
• Hires, trains, and supervises ILL student staff and manages workflow.
• Participates in evaluating and improving ILL services, tools, and procedures.
• Provides public service desk support and patron education.
