Job summary

University of California - Santa Cruz is seeking an Interlibrary Loan Assistant to support daily workflow, supervise student staff, and provide public service and patron education. The role involves collaboration on best practices, project involvement, and unit-wide improvements to ILL services.

The position is full-time at UC Santa Cruz Main Campus with a 100% time allocation and a schedule Tue-Sat, including days, evenings, and nights, under the Interlibrary Loan unit head.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Substantial experience using request tracking, inventory management software, library management software, or similar systems.
• Ability to perform bibliographic verification using online tools.
• Experience working in a collaborative, team-based work environment.
• Experience directing the work of others.
• Demonstrated skill in organizing, monitoring, and setting priorities for a heavy workload with multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
• Superior communication skills to negotiate routine and difficult interactions.
• Ability to continually assess workflow processes with an eye toward efficiency and best practices.
• Able to give, receive, evaluate, and apply constructive criticism.
• Demonstrated customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Accepts and verifies interlibrary loan requests from UCSC patrons and libraries.
• Uses WorldCat, OCLC, Alma and WorldShare to verify requests.
• Determines availability and eligibility of items, considering billing, circulation and copyright policies.
• Resolves difficult/interlibrary loan requests and interprets resource-sharing guidelines.
• Handles patron desk interactions and troubleshoots service/workflow issues.
• Trains and supervises ILL student staff and oversees their workflow.
• Collaborates to design and implement changes to services, tools, and policies.
• Monitors ILL statistics and applies data to workflow decisions.
• Communicates changes in ILL services to library staff and patrons.
• Participates in committee work and contributes to process improvements.
