Job summary

DES Architects + Engineers is seeking an experienced Job Captain - Interiors to translate design concepts into constructible documentation across interior projects. You will lead technical development, coordinate with trades, and manage documentation to ensure code-compliant, permit-ready drawings.

You will collaborate across disciplines, gather data from manufacturers, and maintain quality and budgets while advancing DD, CD, and CA phases.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of dedicated interior design experience with strong technical documentation and execution across project phases.
• Demonstrated proficiency in translating design concepts into detailed construction drawings and specifications.
• Deep knowledge of current building codes and accessibility standards (California Building Code, ADA) governing interior spaces.
• Strong understanding of integrated building systems (architectural, structural, MEP, civil) and their interface with interior design.
• Experience contributing to DD, CD, and CA phases.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and execution of interior design packages and ensure drawings, specs, and details are accurate and code compliant.
• Transition concepts to permit-ready documentation with the interior design team.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and trades during permit documentation to align with design intent.
• Collaborate across disciplines for technical coordination of interior elements.
• Gather technical data from manufacturers and vendors to confirm specs and materials.
• Develop interior specification sections with appropriate material documentation.
• Perform rigorous quality control of project documents across disciplines.
• Review budgets for consistency with documents and standards.
• Assist with technical review of submittals for design intent conformance.
