Job summary

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is seeking an Interior Communications SOVT Technical Writer to support NAVWAR compliant SOVTs for shipboard and shoreside Interior Communication systems in Suffolk, VA. The role involves developing and verifying SOVTs following SPEG guidelines and coordinating with engineering teams.

Responsibilities include researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data; ensuring documents meet military standards and editorial quality; and preparing installation

Qualifications

• Able to obtain Secret Clearance.
• Experience writing test plans for SOVTs.
• Strong proofreading and editing skills.
• Experience with MDTST and Microsoft Word.
• Experience creating/modifying Visio diagrams.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts is a plus.
• Familiar with Controlled Unclassified Information handling.
• Ability to interpret manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
• Understanding MIL-STD-9090.310 and related DoD directives.

ASE is looking for an Interior Communications SOVT Technical Writer to work in Suffolk, VA. To join our team of outstanding professionals,

Akima Systems Engineering Technical Writers perform System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT) development and submission of NAVWAR compliant SOVTs for shipboard and shoreside installations of NIWC Interior Communication systems for the following Combat Systems:

• Integrated Voice Network.
• Shipboard Air Traffic Control Communications System.
• General Announcing.
• Hierarchical Yet Dynamically Reprogrammable Architecture.
• Shipwide Interior Wireless Communications System.

Technical Writers perform the development of SPEG 2.2 System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) Preparation and Execution Guide (SPEG) compliant SOVTs as required for each system variant. System SOVTs are developed following SPEG requirements, identifying minimum test elements, special test elements, and written following the required format and structure of the current SPEG.

Qualifications

• Able to Obtain Secret Clearance.
• Ability to write test plans, SOVT’s effectively.
• Essential knowledge and experience proofreading/editing, that includes grammar skills.
• Experience in documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Modern Digital Tactical Software for Testing (MDTST) and Microsoft Word).
• Experience creating or manipulating graphic files (Microsoft Visio).
• Ability to apply knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, policies, and procedures is a plus.
• Familiar with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, handling and creation).
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustration, specifications, diagrams, and schematics.
• Understanding of military documentation doctrine such as MIL-STD-9090.310 (Alterations to Ships accomplished by Alteration Installation Teams Technical Specification) and DoD Installation directives.

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be offered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed.
