Job summary

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) in Suffolk, VA seeks an Interior Communications SOVT Technical Writer to support System Operational Verification Testing for NIWC interior communication systems on shipboard and shoreside installations. Responsibilities include preparing SOVTs per SPEG 2.2 and ensuring all documentation meets required standards.

Research, writing, editing and proofreading will be required to produce installation and maintenance manuals, technical advisories and release notes.

Qualifications

Able to obtain Secret Clearance.
Experience writing test plans and SOVTs.
Proven proofreading and editing skills.
Experience with documentation/word processing systems (e.g., MDTST, Microsoft Word).
Experience creating or editing graphics with Visio.
Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts is a plus.
Familiar with MIL-STD-9090.310 and DoD directives.

Responsibilities

Researches, writes, edits and proofs technical data for manuals, procedures and specs.
Ensures documentation meets government specs and style guidelines.
Assists in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations.
Transforms subject matter into clear, easy-to-understand information.
Creates or revises hardware/software documentation including installation, operation and maintenance instructions.
Performs work under direct supervision.
Handles basic issues and refers complex ones to higher-level staff.
