Job summary

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE), an Akima company, seeks an Electronics Technician to install and service DoD/DoS security systems across multiple sites, including substation facilities. The role emphasizes independent work with limited supervision, strict wiring practices, and NEC safety compliance.

You will travel up to 75–90% and may be based out of Colorado, Arizona, or Nevada, with a typical 4x10 schedule and travel on Fridays. A US citizen with a valid license is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a customer clearance.
  • Current and valid Driver’s License; may be required to drive company vehicles.
  • 2 years of hands-on experience installing IDS, PACS, IP video surveillance, and other security systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent or military training with 5 years of technical installation experience.
  • Experience with intrusion detection, access control, CCTV, and related security systems.
  • Knowledge of DoD/DoS security systems and NEC-based installation practices.
  • Ability to read schematics and maintenance manuals and use basic test equipment.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an Electronics Technician on assigned projects and comfortable working independently or with a small team.
  • Works with federal agencies on the migration, upgrades, and installation of physical security infrastructure at various electrical substation facilities.
  • Responsible for installing Electronic and Technical Security Systems to DoD and DoS specific guideline and requirements.
  • Reads, interprets, and draws electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical schematics
  • Familiar with and uses test equipment such as multimeters and cable testers (e.g., Fluke, Klein, Ideal).
  • Follows strict installation wiring guidelines and reads and interprets building construction plans (blueprints).
  • Knowledgeable with National Electric Code (NEC) requirements and practices such as grounding and electrical safety.
  • Performs maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of security wiring & power circuits.
Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a customer clearance (this includes a local and national background check).
  • Current and valid Driver’s License.This role may require that company vehicles are driven.
  • 2 years of hands-on experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and servicing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Physical Access Control (PACS), Internet Protocol (IP) video surveillance systems and other security systems.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; OR
  • A graduate of military basic and advanced electronic or communication technician courses. (In lieu of military training must have at least 5 years of technical experience with installation of electronics/electrical systems.)
  • Must have experience as a technician with installation of electronics/electrical systems including, but not limited to:
    • Intrusion Detection Systems.
    • Access Control Systems.
    • Closed Circuit Television.
    • Security Cameras.
    • Intercom Systems.
    • Mass Notification Systems.
    • Conduit Installation.
    • Low Voltage Electrical Systems.
  • Technical Demands:
    • able to use basic test equipment and the preparation of site test data and documentation.
    • ability to work in a demanding, deadline-driven environment, be detailed orientated, and self-motivated.
    • strong verbal communication skills in order to update client as well as team members and Lead on status.
    • ability to work independently or under limited supervision.
    • ability to install, test and troubleshoot Electronic and Technical Security System equipment, read schematics and maintenance manuals.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity of a multitude of systems including but not limited to:
    • DoD and DoS Security Systems and requirements.
    • Access Control and Intrusion Detection Systems such as Lenel, Software House, Milestone.
    • IP CCTV Surveillance Systems such as Milestone.
    • Mechanical and electromechanical locking systems (electronic strikes, locks, mag's, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Acrobat.
Physical Demands
  • Travel Requirements: Varies but expected travel is to exceed 75%.
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, & kneel up to 75% of the time.
  • Repetitive motion, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, and visual acuity (depth perception).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), Inside or Outside / Noise levels.
  • Travel away from home for periods of time including weekends.

Travel and Work locations: While position is based based out of Colorado, Arizona OR Nevada, you may travel to other regions should there be a need or gaps in coverage from that regions team. This is a 75-90% Road Warrior position (including being gone for weekends).

Typical Work schedule: Monday - Thursday (4x10hr) schedule, with flexibility to work paid overtime if approved and requested. Travel with the team to next location on Fridays.

Additional pay: OT if required and approved and per-diem.

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be offered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed.
