Job summary

Human Insights Consulting is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to support our client in the Willowbrook/Champions area of Northwest Houston. This interim/temporary role requires someone who can quickly learn existing processes and manage payroll responsibilities with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will process weekly and biweekly payroll, review hours, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions, and ensure compliance across multi-state employers.

Qualifications

• Experience independently processing payroll in a professional business environment.
• Multi-state payroll processing experience required.
• Working knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, overtime calculations, and payroll deductions.
• Experience working with payroll and timekeeping systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
• Ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies independently.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple departments.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of employee and financial information.
• Ability to work predominantly onsite in Northwest Houston.

Responsibilities

• Process and administer weekly, biweekly, and other applicable payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
• Review and verify employee hours, overtime, bonuses, commissions, reimbursements, and payroll adjustments.
• Monitor employee timecards, resolve discrepancies, and coordinate supervisor approvals before payroll deadlines. Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, and job classifications.
• Coordinate payroll processing and system administration with HR&P, the client's payroll service provider.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour requirements, including multi-state payroll regulations.
• Process payroll corrections, off-cycle payments, and other approved adjustments.
• Prepare payroll registers, funding reports, and supporting documentation for Accounting.
• Maintain PTO balances, benefit deductions, retirement contributions, and other payroll-related records.
• Reconcile payroll discrepancies and respond to payroll-related questions from employees and management.
• Provide accurate timesheet and payroll information to support customer billing and project reporting.
• Maintain organized payroll documentation and support process improvements as needed.
