Requirements include a JD, US bar admission, and 5+ years of privacy counsel experience; CIPP/US or CIPP/E is preferred. The position may scale to full-time and extend beyond January.

Qualifications

Company Description In-House Privacy, Inc. ("IHP") is a tech-focused law firm that provides fractional privacy officer and on-demand privacy counsel support services to a diverse client base. IHP has deep industry expertise across Adtech/Martech, data brokering/licensing, crypto, ecommerce, AI and early stage data-centric product-development needs.

Role Description The Interim Privacy Counsel is to support PTO coverage from October through mid-January as a remote role supporting client-facing privacy and data protection initiatives. Must commit to a minimum 10 hours per week. The role includes advising clients on commercial privacy terms, privacy regulations, assessing data practices, and developing compliant frameworks for data collection, use, and sharing. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and updating commercial data governance or licensing terms, privacy policies, as well as counseling on legal issues tied to Adtech, Martech, e-commerce, crypto, AI, and related complex data flows. The Interim Privacy Counsel will contribute to privacy program design and improvement, conduct risk assessments and gap analyses, and support data subject request escalations/handling. This position collaborates closely with technical, product, marketing, and compliance teams to deliver practical, business-oriented privacy guidance.

Qualifications

• 5 years minimum privacy counsel experience.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to at least one U.S. bar.
• Candidates with a CIPP/US and/or CIPP/E are strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Privacy Regulations and Data Privacy frameworks, including all US state privacy laws, UK/EU GDPR and ePrivacy Directive, and global privacy and marketing laws are required.
• Demonstrated experience in Privacy Compliance, including building or maintaining privacy programs, managing data subject rights escalations, and conducting risk and impact assessments.
• Ability to draft, interpret, and maintain clear and comprehensive Privacy Policies and related documentation.
• Proficiency in negotiating commercial terms related to privacy, advertising, marketing, and data licensing including non-personal AI data licensing or product improvement use terms.
• Experience advising on self-regulatory frameworks, controls, and technology, notably related to adtech including use of consent management platforms, compliance with IAB standards (GPP/TCF), and navigating global consent-privacy preferences.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, manage multiple client projects, and prioritize in a dynamic environment.

While the role is part-time, it could scale up to full-time hours for some period of the engagement, and will likely extend to some extent beyond the January end-date.
