Job summary

Thrive Market is seeking an Interim Payroll & Benefits Supervisor/Manager to lead payroll operations for about 1,600 employees across the U.S. This hands-on role covers Workday configuration, benefits administration, and coordination with Finance on audits and year-end activities.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of multi-state payroll experience, strong Excel skills, and proven leadership in a growth-stage environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience including multi-state US payroll.
• Hands-on Workday experience including payroll configuration or build.
• Experience managing third-party payroll vendors and SLAs.
• 2+ years leading or supervising payroll staff or a team.
• Experience with benefits administration and 401(k) reconciliation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the Payroll Coordinator and set deadlines for payroll processing.
• Own payroll accuracy across East and West Coast populations; oversee cycles end-to-end.
• Maintain payroll tax and regulatory compliance; monitor changes and notify stakeholders.
• Manage payroll-related Workday configuration and ADP integrations.
• Lead year-end processes, including reconciliations and tax filings.
• Coordinate with Finance on audits, funding, and journal entries.
• Build and document scalable payroll processes and controls for SOX/ICFR.
